Write two pages about history of walmart and reason why you choose walmart for your project - Essay Example In 1988, Walton left the post of CEO and continued as the chairman of the highest decision making board of the company. After a period of tremendous success, Walton thus began to prepare his potential successors. Walton and Huey have elaborately explained this process of development and consolidation in the book Sam Walton, Made in America: My Story. Anwar has aptly remarked on the next phase of Wal-Martââ¬â¢s attacking expansionism. According to Anwar, ââ¬Å"Since 1992, Wal-Mart has sought aggressive diversification by acquiring various retailing chains in Mexico, Canada, Germany and the U.K. This change in Wal-Martââ¬â¢s core competence beyond the U.S. market signifies its future growth and expansion.â⬠(101) In 2005, as per the observation of Matthew and Mark, the company had sales figures around $ 312.4 billion. It employed 1.6 million workers all over the world. It emerged as the largest corporation in the world and stood apart as a highly developed, diversified, and efficient retailing chain. (15-25) Of late, Wal-Mart is striving to become an energy efficient company. It is concentrating on renewable energy, waste management, organic products, and power generation. During the recession of 2008-09, Wal-Mart continued to report solid fiscal figures with significant profits and revenue. Why should Wal-Mart be chosen for the purpose of company analysis? The reason is obvious: It is a great company! First of all, Waltonââ¬â¢s struggle and success stories are the ideal ingredients of a legend that depicts how American dream can come true. Apart from the high sales figures and annual turnover of billions of dollars, Wal-Mart has contributed significantly in the realm of corporate social responsibility. A report on Agile and OOAD - Research Paper Example Guidelines for Combining Agile with other approaches 9 VIII. Case Study 10 IX. Recommendations and Challenges 10 X. Bibliography 11 I. Introduction In the past few years, there have emerged a large number of software development practices and processes. In this scenario, agile software development methodologies have become a trend in quickly changing software industry. In the past, only the traditional software development methodology was the only method to develop software products. However, it was not supportive for late changes and iterations. In order to deal with the issues presented in traditional software development approaches there emerged a very attractive software development approach, known as agile software development. Soon it became a standard software development approach which received a great deal of support of all kinds of experts from the software industry. At the present, the majority of software development firms and software developers are aware of agile softwa re development methodologies. They use it all the way through the software development lifecycle. Basically, agile software development approach is based on some principles which can be tailored according to varying requirements of software projects. This report will present a detailed analysis of agile software development. ... In this scenario, the term ââ¬Å"agileâ⬠is used to reveal number of meanings like that implement changes rapidly, deliver the completed product rapidly and accommodate change frequently. In view of the fact that there are a large number of software development approaches (for instance Scrum, XP and many more) which come under the umbrella of agile software development paradigm and they differ in emphasis and practices, however they all follow the same principles which come under agile agenda. In this scenario, many researchers present the common description of the agile manifesto. According to researchers agile methodology and its family members are based on the following principles (Kavitha & Thomas, 2011; Lucia & Qusef, 2010; Paetsch, 2003): Working software application or a product should be delivered as rapidly and regularly as possible (it should be delivered in days in place of weeks and in weeks in place of months) Working software application should give an insight int o the progress of the overall project Improving the customer satisfaction by providing them rapid and regular release of implemented software application. Agile software development methodologies are aimed at supporting and accommodating late changes all the way through the software development lifecycle. In fact, late changes in requirements are effectively accommodated without having serious effects on the overall development or project. Agile software methodologies are designed to support effective collaboration, communication and close on a daily basis cooperation between business people and developers in fact among all the stakeholders Agile software development methodologies are highly based on

We Need a Traditional Chinese Medicine Essay Example for Free
We Need a Traditional Chinese Medicine Essay Kelly Ross said, ââ¬Å"The U. S. economy was broken long before the Crash of 2008, but its weakness was temporarily papered over by a real estate bubble in the Bush years. â⬠(Ross, 2012) It seems like that we are experiencing a financial crisis right now, but the truth is that our economy system is weaker than what we thought. How do we resolve the underlying problems? Think about China, why is China doing so well? Cheaper labor cost, lager export, or huge householder savings? Anyway, letââ¬â¢s go into Chineseââ¬â¢ core values first and then figure out the reasons which may useful for us. The Confucius is the core of Chinese culture and he is also one of the earliest economists in China. His Confucian theory has been used by Chinese governments to control their people as long as thousands years. Here is the question for today. How does the Confuciusââ¬â¢ economics become an antidote to our economic recession? First of all, letââ¬â¢s talk about the Confuciusââ¬â¢ view of wealth. His theory is based on morality and it is also the foundation of his economic thought. According to Confucius, ââ¬Å"Riches and honours are what men desire. If it cannot be obtained in the proper way, they should not be held. Poverty and meanness are what men dislike. If it cannot be avoided in the proper way, they should not be avoidedâ⬠(Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p 17. ) The Confucius is teaching his students that even though we all want to get wealth, but we cannot get it via sharp practice. We should think about ââ¬Å"Yi(? )â⬠first which comes before gain. ââ¬Å"Yiâ⬠can be seen as the word ââ¬Å"righteousnessâ⬠in English which is also based upon the idea of reciprocity. This idea looks like an opposite idea of self-interest. On the other hand, Adam Smith told us that ââ¬Å"self-interest is ââ¬Ëgoodââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Class ppt. Kuiper. ) Self-interest can stimulate economic growth in the short run but can also bring moral issues for a long term implication. Take a look at our economy today, there are many examples showed us that the lack of supervision is the most common reason for financial crises. What are wrong with our supervision system and moral cognition? We cannot obtain every single penny from the world. If so, our desire will never be satisfied and it can lead us to blot up the resource from our descendants in the future. Money is not the purpose of our life; it is only a tool that services our life. However, this is not meaning that we should avoid wealth. The Confucius said, ââ¬Å"If the search for riches is sure to be successful, though I should become a groom with whip in hand to get them, I will do so. As the search may not be successful, I will follow after that which I love. â⬠(Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 38. ) From this sentence we can see that Confucius is perfervid to earn gain via being an official. Therefore, if it is the right way of getting gain, then he would love to do it, even only being a low- level official with physical labor. Moreover, The Confucius said, ââ¬Å"The mind of the superior man is conversant with righteousness; the mind of the mean man is conversant with gain. â⬠(Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p 19. ) A gentleman should understand and familiar with righteousness. In the orientation of value, the first thing a gentleman should consider is ââ¬Å"Yiâ⬠; also, for a gentlemans virtue and morality, ââ¬Å"Yiâ⬠is the value of life and it is very important for Confucian. Therefore, virtue and morality will be the gentlemenââ¬â¢s first pursuit. In addition, the Confucianism is always in a moral and political perspective to deal with problems. The Confucius said, ââ¬Å"If a superior love propriety, the people will not dare not to be reverent. If he loves righteousness, the people will not dare not to submit to his example. If he loves good faith, the people will not dare not to be sincere. Now, when these things obtain, the people from all quarters will come to him, bearing their children on their backs; what need has he of a knowledge of husbandry? â⬠(Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 76. ) From Confuciusââ¬â¢ words, we can see that personality trait is most important in the Confucianism. If we can build a wonderful moral system, then we will be able to obtain a political stability, and then, to have a stabile economy. In addition, even though the economy is very tied to people lives and development, it still does not become above to the moral and politicianââ¬â¢s primary task in the Confucian. That is an upside down relationship with what we thought today, because we all treat the economy as the most important part of our society. Furthermore, one of Confuciusââ¬â¢s points of view is advocating a frugal society and stand against luxury. He thinks that if a government wants to govern the country well, then saving and reduce spending are most important. He said, ââ¬Å"Administration is saving. â⬠(Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 72.) This is not meaning that spending it bad, but we should also do saving as well. Our earth needs a balance as well as we does. However, it is going to lead to a severer resource shortage if we do not change our spending behavior right now. In addition, the Confucius also encourages the government into universal education after they have a stabile economy. He thinks that in order to improve the quality of people we should improve the extent and quality of education, which is a sustaining way to keep our society stabile. According to The Analects of Confucius, ââ¬Å"ââ¬Ëand when they have been enriched, what more shall be done? ââ¬â¢ The Master said, ââ¬ËTeach them. ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 77. ) Therefore, we should make our education system stronger as well as our morality system. As economic globalization from today, we are not only need abundant economic resource as our supporter; we also need to be sustained with ideological and ethical system because that is the true basis of our life. Even though there are many different kind of economic activates, productive activate is still one of the most important activates. Also, the Confucius teaches his students that economic activities should be amenable to ethics. We should regain the time which is frugal. Donââ¬â¢t we be touched from him? In addition, here is a sentence shows an epitome of the Confucianism ââ¬Å"There were four things which the Master taught, ââ¬â letters, ethics, devotion of soul, and truthfulness. â⬠(Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 39. ) The Confucius also teaches his students that every choice, which related to praise or blame, and publicity or suppression, depends on whatever they conform to the establishment of the Confucian moral laws and political criterion. As Chinese economy growth today, we may try this ââ¬Å"traditional Chinese medicineâ⬠which is from the Confucianism; see if it can help our economy to get better.

Electronic commerce
Electronic commerce Introduction Electronic commerce,is also known as electronic marketing, consist of process of buying, selling or exchanging products, services or information via computer network. The amount of trade conducted electronically grown extraordinarily with widespread Internet usage. Electronic commerce started more than 20 years ago in the form of Electronic Data Interexchange(EDI) and Electronic Funds Transfer(EFT) Followed in the 1980s by Automated Teller Machine(ATM),telephone banking and the extensive use of on-line credit card transaction. There are three concept in E-commerce such as brick-and-mortar,virtual, and click and mortar. The brick-and-mortar concept The brick-and-mortar is refer to business that have physical presence which is rather than virtual or online.Furthermore, stores(physical material such as brick and mortar) that we can drive to end enter physically to touch, purchase and see the merchandise. It is term as the basic for the click and mortar. The brick-and-mortar business is old-economy organization(corporation) that perform most of their business whithout network(off-line).It is selling physical product by means of physical agents. The vitual pure play organization(virtual) In e-commerce pure-play I refer to organization that originated and does business purely through the internet. It has no physical store(brick-and-mortar) where customers can shop.Examples of large pure play companies are Amazon.com and Netflix.com. The click-and-mortar concept The click-and-mortar concept is refer to combination of traditional(brick-and-mortar) and online establishment, such as store, bank and website.Transaction can be initiated and finalized either at the website(ââ¬Ëclick)or at the physical site(ââ¬Ëmortar) The transformation in organization(brick to click) Many of organizational structures of todays business were designed more than 100 years ago when when computer-based information system were not available.Besides, information is really comparative and difficult to process.Plus, communition system is too old to use in daliy life.More than 10 years a ago Peter Drucker heralded the coming of a new organizational type,an organization composed largely of specific who discipline and direct their own performance through organized feedback from headquarters, colleagues and customers. Few years ago, when pure-play organization is cant stand anymore in business, other organization think to expand their sale,so click-and-mortar start to be use.The area pure-play fall short are precisely the areas in which brick-and-mortar companies took place in business. Before this,we use brick-and-mortar also. This concept can be use in organization, but to expand the business is hard because the business is just spread around its area because brick-and-mortar organization only sell physically outside the network.People from other places cant purchase thingS from it because they did not know about it.Soon, they realize that to make a successful business,it must go online. Click-and-mortar is not about praising one business model at the expense of another. It is also about combining the strength of both to develop the most positive consumer experience possible because in the e-commerce world, the customer will determine the winner. The advantage of using click-and-mortar concept in organization

Critical Review of Danger Boy Essay
Mark Williamsââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å"Danger Boy: Ancient fireâ⬠is set in 2019. It is a science fiction and time travelling novel. The text explores the effects of building a time machine. In Mark Williamsââ¬â¢ novel, he examines the negative impact of futurist technology. Although the concept of time travelling may seem appealing at first glance, there is an ultimately destructive consequence that comes with it, like losing a love one. The novel opens with an argument between Eliââ¬â¢s father, Sandusky, and Mr Howe, a representative from a government department. Mr Howe persuades Sandusky to invent a machine that can slow down time in a force field. Sanduskyââ¬â¢s wife, a scientist, assists Sandusky to invent the time travelling machine but she is sucked into the machine and travels back in time. Therefore, Sandusky is urged to produce another time machine that can slow down time with a more stable core. Upon starting up the machine, a piece of old paper emerges. Eli reaches for the newspaper and gets sucked into the year of Alexandria (415 C. E). Eli and his companion, a dinosaur and an Alexandrian, seeks to reunite Sanduskyââ¬â¢s wife, returning to the present day life and save the world from the fatal disease that has slipped through time. The novel is structured by different narrative perspectives, in which different characters narrate the story from their personal point of view and experience. This type of structure of narrative point of views offers the reader a different perspective of the world from three characters: Eli, Clyne and Thea. The writerââ¬â¢s intention here may be to demonstrate the reality is never black or white, but can be interpreted and understood in different ways in different individuals. However, the one limitation to this type of structure is that the reader may experience confusion in attempting to understand the flow of the story, in which disputes the coherency of events. There are no obvious clues to indicate the change of the protagonist. The only visible clue available is the chapter title and the narratorââ¬â¢s name. Hence, this confuses us in terms of identifying the protagonist. As the reader continues to read, they will encounter an acronym many times before it gives its meaning. There are instances in the text when certain words such as ââ¬Å"WHOMPEsâ⬠suddenly appear, which disrupts the flow of the story. Reading this novel for the first time will confuse the reader. As the reader progresses through the novel, Sandusky explains to Eli what a ââ¬Å"WHOMPERsâ⬠is. It is a ââ¬Å"Wide Orbiting Massless ParticlE Reversers. â⬠The writers intention suggest that the scientific invention is an abstract idea which is foreign to humanity. The author uses a stream of consciousness to enable the reader to engage with the thought process of the character. When Sandusky answered Eliââ¬â¢s question about time, he replied ââ¬Ëyou go into the Fifth Dimensionâ⬠¦hard to tell the difference between time and space, or when and where. Or even who and what. â⬠This encourages the reader to think and be in the mind of the narrator. This is a really good idea for advanced readers who want to think beyond the novel. Williamsââ¬â¢ got inspired to write the novel by his son. He got the idea when his son was running down the hallway yelling out ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m a Danger Boy! â⬠The novelââ¬â¢s setting is based on where he lives, which is LA. There could be a connection between the novelââ¬â¢s setting and where he lives. One connection is that LA is a place for relaxation and tourism. The main character travels to LA with his father to relax a bit after the tragic incident. One of the major themes in ââ¬Å"Danger Boyâ⬠is time traveling. Time traveling is frequent in the novel. It happens when ever Eli puts his ââ¬Å"WHOMPERâ⬠charged baseball cap on. Another theme them is history. History is shown in this novel from many perspectives. It is seen by going back in time to Alexandria (415 C. E). The main motif in the novel is a baseball cap. It is a motif because itââ¬â¢s a device that allows Eli to time travel. Without the baseball cap, Eli would just be like any other ordinary kid. This novel can be compared with Audrey Niffeneggerââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Time Travellerââ¬â¢s Wifeâ⬠. The two novels involve the same themes; history and time travelling. In ââ¬Å"Danger Boyâ⬠Eli becomes a time traveller after he touches a time machine. He travels back in time to Alexandria. He can control when he wants to time travel, but canââ¬â¢t control on where itââ¬â¢ll take him. In ââ¬Å"The Time Travellerââ¬â¢s Wifeâ⬠Henry is born with a genetic disorder. This genetic disorder allowed him to time travel. There was one thing that he canââ¬â¢t control. It is where he lands from time travelling and when he time travels. Ultimately, Williams has created an adventurous and exciting novel. The book was exciting because it produced tension into whether the protagonists find Margret or not. The writer produced a text that was a bit difficult to read and establishment of the main character. The author shaped the words in the sentences really strangely which sometimes doesnââ¬â¢t make sense or it is not suitable, so the reader needs to re-read it to understand it. This novel should be raising questions about time travel, especially in the future.
Pay for Play: College Athletes Deserve Payment Essay
Although many college athletes receive a free education in exchange for playing a sport, itââ¬â¢s not enough. The sports industry, college football specifically, is a multimillion dollar business. The athletes who participate in this multimillion dollar business are primarily why the business does so well. Student athletes should receive a monetary compensation for their work. There are quite a few reasons to support college athletes making a type of monetary compensation. A few of the reasons include the dangers of playing sports, how expensive college is, and how much the programs make annually. College football athletes ââ¬Å"leave it all on the fieldâ⬠when they compete. Many players would say ââ¬Å"blood, sweat, and tears were shed for their schools.â⬠In return, shouldnââ¬â¢t they deserve compensation in the form of a stipend? Joe Nocera of The New York Times said the top 15 highest-paid NCAA division 1 football coaches made $53.4 million; meanwhile, the 13,866 Division 1 players made $0. The definition of an amateur is an athlete who has never accepted money, or who accepts money under restriction specified by a regulatory body, in this case the National Collegiate Athletic Association, for participating in a competition (FreeDictionary.com). The problem the NCAA has with paying their student athletes for their work on the field is that it would no longer be considered an amateur sport which goes against tradition (NCAA Board of Directors, ESPN.com). Historically speaking, programs didnââ¬â¢t make $100 million dollars 100 years ago. The NCAA is relucta nt to share revenue with their student athletes in an effort to keep it all for themselves (Tom Farrey ââ¬â ESPN Writer). The times have changed and student athletes deserve to get paid. College education is not cheap under any circumstance. The average cost of in-state resident tuitions and fees for a four year degree is approximately $40,000 (Savingforcollege.com). The cost of tuition is going up every year with an average increase of 6%. Here we can break down the numbers in a general sense to see how much a student athlete ââ¬Å"makesâ⬠with a free four year scholarship. Nocera also mentioned student athletes participate in approximately 50 hours a week in football related activities. For example, practice, film studying, team meetings, working out, and games. 50 hours a week, at 52 weeks per year, multiplied by 4 years comes out to 10,400 hours. $40,000 divided by 10,400 hours comes out to $3.85 an hour. $3.85 is lower than the national average for minimum wage, which is about $7.25. This number of 50 hours per week is just time spent on the sport. This time doesnââ¬â¢t include the school portion, which is supposed to be why the student athletes are there. Presented with this kind of data, anyone could tell that college athletes are being ââ¬Å"underpaid.â⬠Now that we know how much student athletes ââ¬Å"make,â⬠we can take a look at how much universities profit from their student athletes. According to ESPN in 2008, the top 10 universities in college football reported revenues of $100 million on average (ESPN.com). The lower 10 schools in revenue make around $15 million. There are 120 Division 1 schools in college football. $5.4 billion dollars is the approximate revenue for one year of Division 1 college football. This number is alarming. Students are the focal points of this business and they do not receive any part of the revenue? Strictly speaking of per institute, the NCAA should govern a system that collected a form of tax from each university that would be substantial to paying student athletes. They wouldnââ¬â¢t need to pay the student millions of dollars because, letââ¬â¢s face it, the student athletes are not professionals. If they were to get paid an additional $5,000 for the season their sport was in, the total amount paid to the students in comparison to revenue would still be less than 1% (Personal calculation via ESPN data). Another reason to consider payment for student athletes is the potential risk of injury. Professional athletes get paid hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars and have players unions to protect them in case of serious injury. There are many associated risks with every sport; with football it seems there are more than most sports. The very nature of football is very violent; violence is what makes football so popular in America. The most popular sports are those with an associated violent contact such as hockey, football, and mixed martial arts (cbsnews.com). The advancement of safety equipment for football players is heavily debated. Every year the administration of both the National Football League and the NCAA is striving to make the sport safer for its players. The potential injuries from football include everything imaginable to include broken bones, paralysis, brain damage, tearing of ligaments, and other neurological problems that can affect someone for the rest of their lives. Recent studies show traumatic brain injury is the result of multiple concussions over the lifespan of a player (civtrial.com/traumatic-brain-suicide). Junor Seau, an all-pro NFL linebacker, recently committed suicide due to brain injuries he sustained from playing a 10+ year career in the NFL (NFL.com/Family-sues-NFL). More and more studies are linking mental health problems to concussions acquired in violent sports. The student athletes need something more if they were to be irreparably damaged for life. The amount of money they could be paid could go into a fund dedicated to helping them later in life. The students put their future on the line while playing these sports; they deserve to get compensated for their efforts. College athletes deserve to be paid for their sacrifices. Universities make millions of dollars on a yearly basis. University of Michiganââ¬â¢s ticket sales for one season of college football can pay for their entire athletic program (MGOBlue.com). The student athletes are responsible for themselves and their universityââ¬â¢s image as a whole. Traditionally speaking they are amateurs, but recently with the rise in popularity of college football, they are more than that. They are stars and they deserve at least a reasonable amount of monetary compensation. The NCAA should govern a system to pay their student athletes because they deserve it.
